the start of it all

This was my first Thursday night at the Bowery Bar.
It was the spring of 2000.
I was in way over my head.

It was as if a swarm of locusts in the form of jappy girls had taken over the entire place. Every table was filled with young IJC's in the exact same $200 jeans and white tank tops all smiling perfect smiles, drinking cosmos, gesturing wildly with their hands and talking loudly to the identical girl across the table while pretending not to be looking around for someone cooler to talk to. 

Welcome to the world of the IJC.

These girls are called IJC's for the simple reason that both on the surface and underneath they are all more or less exactly the same Interchangeable Jappy Chick.

Common characteristics of IJC's include but are not limited to:
-full breasted
-straight dark hair
-well tanned
-slightly overweight
-over-educated and underemployed
-teeth a little too white and straight (daddy is a dentist after all)

I agree that these girls are money grubbing and shallow. But the way you post some comments on this website is offense and flat out anti-semitic. It sounds like you need to get laid, why dont u go into your piggy bank and slurge on a hooker. You're one cheap guy, $75 for 2 people for dinner is not a ton of money. Maybe you're the one who's a little underpaid. If you dont like it hear then move to Pennsylvania and become amish. It doesnt matter how many jewish friends you have, what and how you write it is anti-semitic. Change the people you are talking about, what if they were African-American or Arab. It would sound very racist. But this is what ignorant people such as yourself do, they generalize and pigeon-hole people into one description. Therefore you are just as shallow as the people you describe.

i hate to give this guy an audience, but i feel the need to respond here. first of all, i would like to point out that i am jewish right down to my circumcized penis. i just wanted to clear that up lest you think i am catholic or arab or a converted jew just in it for the jokes, like tim watley.

next, i wrote the disclaimer in the 'about' section of this blog specifically for people like you with no sense of humor. my musings on this blog are humor and are not intended to offend anyone. maybe you can't appreciate it my humor but that's not my problem. if chris rock can make fun of blacks (or african americans as you like to say) on HBO, i think i'm in the clear.

lastly i am pretty sure i never used the word jewish to describe anyone. the ijc is a specific type of girl from certain areas of LI, NJ, PA, MD and FL and other places. she probably went to school somewhere like Syracuse, UMD, Tulane, Michigan or UPenn. she works in PR or event planning or something similar, lives in murray hill, has a certain look, and expects to have the world handed to her.

I received this link in a forward today and thought, "Wow, now here's a guy who knows how to use that great right we all enjoy in this country to freedom of speech. " Your words are impressive and bold. Now here I go, exercising my right.

What you are doing here is called JAP baiting. It looks like you're helping to bring it back from the 1980's. Mazel tov. During this decade there were several very interesting essays written by sociology & Jewish studies professors at universities with large Jewish populations, including Michigan and Syracuse. They were based on some disturbing JAP baiting episodes that happened during this time. ie. chanting and harrassment at football games, swastikas in the library and worst of all Jews turning against Jews with self-hate propaganda and words so close to yours it is frightening.

If this is true, that you are Jewish, I can only state what is obvious. That you seem to be the self-loathing type of Jew. This is one who does not completely understand his routes or his religion and who does not take the time to find his own spirituality. There is something about being Jewish and being different that scares him and makes himself feel a need to set himself above and apart from the rest of the tribe. I don't know what it is that drives that for you, but I will tell you this. By spreading words like these your are just feeding the outside world more fuel for the anti-semetic fire. As if Jews did not already have enough enemies in this world, now you too are turning against your own people.

When most of our families came to this country they had very little and had to build themselves up. Like most first generation Americans, they worked exceptionally hard to give their children what they did not have. From their hard work their children were able achieve higher educations and get better jobs and lead more comfortable lives. The Jewish religion has always valued education and taking care of one's family. Nothing wrong with spoiling your children. Granted, some people may take it too far and as a result children can grow up to expect things and sometimes take them for granted that they probably should just be appreciative of. This comes from the individual parenting though, maybe even from our indulgent American culture too, but it does not stem from the Jewish religion. If you have a problem with the a few people you know who happen to live in a way that you find flaw with, please don't take it out on a whole religion. You are hurting ALL of us and you are hurting yourself.

Please reconsider the words you are spreading around - this is all I'm asking. Do some Googling and find those essays to educate yourself about the harm JAP baiting can do. I am Jewish as well. This effects me just as much as it could one day come around full circle and effect you.

Oye may be right, but misses the point of this blog.

Consider:
1) IJCs are certainly not representative of all Jews (I don't think anybody is saying otherwise), but are a very real phenomenon nonetheless. As many have implied here, it's not a religion or genetic thing, but more an attitudinal and possibly socio-cultural-economic thing, not limited to any one group.
2) Furthermore, we are exercising the time-honored tradition of confronting our unpleasantry with bittersweet humor.
3) "JAP-baiting" episodes (as described in the previous post) are indeed despicable acts of hurtful racism. On the other hand, this blog is simply a forum of varied viewpoints: some funny, some not, some spot-on, some not. I don't think there is hate or fear here, but rather morbid fascination, ambivalence, occasionally introspection, self-criticism, et cetera. In any case we must be able to laugh at ourselves.
4) The most egregious IJCs -- which in my opinion are the most visibly spoiled, self-entitled and shallow specimens -- often but certainly not always Jewish -- deserve to be lampooned and cut down to size. I applaud the man behind the IJC for doing so.

OK so last summer I was on a Birthright trip with about 25 other Jewish guys who were also Jewish down to our circumcisions. There wasn't a single one of us who didn't bitch about how jappy the chicks were on the trip. JAPs are a real phenomenon, and every Jewish man's life's work is to find a hot Jewish girl who is NOT a JAP. Jews who deny the existence of JAPs or who call it anti-semitic are the self hating Jews who have plagued our people from the inside out for 3000 years, they are the ones who do not want to be honest about a real problem facing the Jewish people: too many of our hot chicks are being lost to Japism. Is it any surprise that as the percentage of Jappy chicks increases, so does the percentage of mixed marriages? Today less than half of Jewish American men are marrying Jewish women, and it's because of the rise of Japism forcing many self-respecting Jewish men to look outside the Jewish community for a wife who won't drive him crazy. Those of us who love our people are honest about the existence of IJC's because we know that only honesty will allow us to rid the Jewish gene pool of these undesirable women. Fortunately, I think the battle is being won, at least here in rural America. I go to a small college in Virginia with a relatively small Jewish community. However, there are a good number of Hot Jewish Chicks who are not jappy in the slightest. Down with the IJC's, up with the HJC's!!!!!!

bwahahahaha!!!! i went to school with all of these horrid girls and they made my life miserable. it was such a relief to get the hell out of my town and go to a diverse university where i met non japs and non-jews. because of my past, i admit i am a bit anti-semetic although i try to make it a point to meet jews who do not fit this stereotype. i try to get over my anti-semetism, but i admit, it is hard. i find most jewish people to be physically unattractive (i say 'i find' because beauty is subjective), loud, neurotic, and incapable of taking risks. i am blond with a small nose, small tits, slender body, and blue eyes, and i LOVE how everyone i meet says i do not look jewish at all. personally if people began seeing jewishness as a religion and not a race, i wouldn't have to be saddled with it for life, since i don't believe in the cruel jewish god or the barbaric holidays. don't let all the anally politically correct people keep you from your hilarious web site. there IS such thing as looking jewish--just look at all those girls. some people find this attractive; i don't. some people find the jewish religion wonderful; i find it depressing. does this make me anti-semetic? maybe, because i do not like jewishness. but do i hate all jewish people or find all jewish people ugly? no--just the ones who fit the stereotype.

I came across a page on this site (the one about Wisconsin) when I was googling to see if anyone agreed with me about the nastiness and snobbiness I see all around the East Coast. I come from a place (Montgomery County, MD) with a lot of IJCs but I've never associateid it as a Jewish thing, though some people unfortunately do.

Its definitely not a Jewish thing. Its a East Coast/Northeast/Yankee thing. My part of Maryland is overrun with transplants from places like Long Island, New Jersey, Westchester, and Connecticut. The Jappyness is true across all races and religions here. I'm Asian American (very Americanized and not part of those Asian cliques) and so many Asian girls are also "IJCs".

The distinction is completely regional. Jewish people who are actually native to Maryland are very nice, humble, wonderful people just like other natives and southerners/midwesterners and non-jews from up north are all assholes regardless of race or religion.

Its a shame that most of the snobby Yankee students those Wisconsin natives see just happen to be Jewish. I actually know a lot of wonderful Jewish girls during my 4 recent years at UMD who live in regular freshman dorms, aren't too uppity to enjoy Chipotle's and Applebees, shop at Target and Wal-Mart, drive Toyotas, and listen to country music...just like the normal red-blooded American. Trust me, there are so many annoying non-Jewish students from up north who talk with those uppity Long Island and Boston accents, complain about missing their pizza and bagels and act very abrasively and arrogantly.

People should stop being so sensitive and make everything a racial or religious issue. Its not a Jewish thing, its a Northern thing. Its one reason I can't wait to get out of the East Coast. With all the transplants here in Maryland there are only two types here people: IJCs and ghetto people (which includes illegal immigrants.)
